Home Energy and CO2 Reduction Report

In June 2008 Parity Eco Solutions Ltd were engaged to provide an appraisal of the options for energy efficiency and renewable energy in the building. They generated a list of recommendations on how to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs, based on "No Cost" (behavioural initiatives), "Low Cost" and "Higher Cost" technological initiatives. Many technological and behavioural initiatives had already been implemented prior to this date and guidance was required for further improvements.

Their recommended initiatives, and our subsequent actions were:

Recommendation Implemented Cost
Replace all remaining bulbs with Low Energy Equivalents August 2008 £60
Add extra door and window draught-proofing (or upgrade existing) Autumn 2008 £15
Insulate flat roof using Warmcel September 2008 £3,098
Install a wood pellet boiler Option rejected
.......instead a Condensing Oil Boiler was installed January 2010 £4,653
Install insulation internally to pitched roof in loft February 2010 £1,595
Install Heat Exchange Vent in Bathroom Planned for August 2011
with other bathroom work.
Install solar-thermal hot water heating. Not allowed under strict
conservation area rules

Parity Eco's advice and recommendations have been invaluable in getting us to "Max Insulation" within 18 months of their visit and their fee was excellent value in the light of the comfort, economy and CO2 reduction we are now experiencing, two years on.
